Eat Your Way to Happy

Every day I see what people are filling their carts to the brim with. Again and again I hear the dilemmas facing their families. My co worker has been struggling with her son's behavioral issues for a while. A few weeks ago this six year old was officially diagnosed with ADHD. He started medication this week. In our area of processed, fried, quick-fix, fatty foods I am hearing over and over about the mental and emotional disorders burdening local families. There has to be more to the story when elementary age children are suicidal right?

I know for certain that my mood is completely altered based on our diet. When I am eating more whole foods I notice a boost in my energy and positive outlook on things. I know that when I'm filling my body with crap I gain weight, get grouchy and feel depressed. I hate how I feel about myself when I am stuck in a cruddy diet of anything processed. It makes perfect sense. Duh, people, this should be common sense by now, but surprisingly people keep acting shocked to find out about the links between proper diet and health. Diet effects the physical health and physical health most definitely effects mental health. It's all connected and I'm flabbergasted when people neglect to see the link. I know the people I work with see me as a fuddy -duddy half the time when I bring up these issues. I realize that there are conditions in which medication is most definitely needed but I just wonder if we much too quickly dope our kids to solve emotional problems and mental health.

They probably would if that's all we had. I move for world wide extermination of cows, and sugar.

First part, I agree. Fruit is good to eat generally, but can be messy and inconvenient.
