Kashi Pizza

I just got off with one of my California friend's Becky. Becky's daughter Maya, attends school in Ventura County, and when I started mentioning school cafeteria pizza, she advised me Maya gets Domino's once a week. I caught myself before starting in on "Back in my day...", and merely tried absorbing the fact here in the South, we still pile slabs of fat on a plate for the students.

Meanwhile, back in redneck land here... I'm still on the search for a low-fat frozen pizza. Someone suggested Kashi, and when I couldn't find the "Heaven's Bistro" the other day at Friendly Center's Harris Teeter.... I splurged and bought one of these $7.00 pizzas. Yes $7.00. Just like their cereals, their pizza is way over-priced. Don't get me wrong, I like the food, but the premium is questionable. Secondly, while their pizza is lower fat then say a Digiorno version, it's not nearly anything like the 2 gram of fat one I'm in search of.

Kashi's Mushroom and spinach came in at 9g of fat. It's literally a giant cracker with a tad of cheese and a few toppings. It tastes great though. Although the spinach was a bit overpowering, the mushrooms were out of this world. The picture on the box, however doesn't seem to indicate the look of this product. Compare the frozen version above with the box:

Baby Portobello, Champignon and Shiitake mushrooms with spinach, mozzarella and provolone cheeses with a tomato parmesan sauce on a wood-fired, thin crust made with Kashi 7 Whole Grains & Sesameā„¢ and flax seed. Vegetarian.

My likes are this. The flax seed. Love the taste. The mushrooms, and the crust. My dislikes are it's too fatty, not enough cheese or sauce, and the price which is unheard of. Considering the last time I ordered Domino's it was $7.00 a pizza, I'd say unless you have a coupon, I'd just order out a thin crust domino's pizza which is only 8.5 grams of fat.

That can also be used to describe a Mr. P's Pizza as well....

Liv, you mention a lot about fat grams in your reviews but not much about calories (lest I missed it). Calories are what kill me because my desk job doesn't allow for much of a chance to use what my intake could be during the day... What are these things like in Calorieville?

Kashi is 250 Calories..., Heavens Bistro 230, Dominos 205 (Remembering, Dominos is 1/8 of a 14" pie, and the other two are 1/3 of a 12" pie)

I don't go by calories, as atleast with my own body, my success isn't based on how much I eat, but what I eat....

As long as I stick under 40g fat a day, I'm good at maintaining my weight generally.... I'm aiming 20-30 right now, but invariable it varies. Some days I have less then 10, some more then 40.

It works for me... and has for Shan so far.... but we both have a long way to go.
