Where art thou Arch Deluxe??

I'm not sure what the deal has been lately, but I have been craving one of those Arch Deluxe sandwiches that McDonalds discontinued back in the 90's.

This was part of some new 'adult menu' (no, not the *brownchickenbrowncow* kind of "adult") designed by an executive chef which McDonald's introduced along with a massive ad campaign. Three sandwiches were released, a chicken, large fish, and the flagship: Arch Deluxe. All of which were advertised as cartering to an older audience. I don't know if that was actually the case, because I loved the heck out of that sandwich. When the line was discontinued, the chicken and fish sandwiches morphed into offerings McD's still currently sells, however the Arch Deluxe's fate was not to be so transitional. They simply killed it.

This was like no other McD's sandwich I have ever had. Here was the layout:

The peppercorn bacon, sauce, and bun made this thing shine. I swear, I'd yell obscenities at BHL in Biscuitville (Yes, thats my new thing for a while) for another shot at one of these, it was so good.

Anyone else out there have fond memories of this?

I haven't frequented fast food places since ... geez, I can't recall when I stopped messing with them on a regular basis. The only thing I use burger places for over the past couple of decades is a fish sandwich when I'm in a hurry driving someplace.

I don't even recall the existence of this particular thing. Oh well. ;)

I think I may have eaten one of these once. I do remember the ad campaign. Especially the one where the kid brings his Dad to school for career day. Apparenty his worked in McCorporate and when he started talking about the Arch Deluxe, all the kids were repulsed, cause it was a grown-up sandwich. There were several other ads along the same line.

Sanjuro, maybe you can print out the layout and take it with you to Fudruckers and play mad scientist at the condiment bar.

What I really hate is that they can bring that damn McRib back every full moon, but can't seem to bring back the Arch Deluxe for a limited run. :x

They had some unique variation over in London... Can't remember what it was called by to me it tasted like "extra ketchup burger"... I think it was supposed to be an upscale version like Carl's & Hardee's $6.00 burger.

( of course you're still welcome to go to Biscuitville and cuss BHL. Just let me know so I can be there to celebrate the occasion! )

Ingredients

The Secret Sauce :
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon Grey Poupon Specialty peppercorn mustard

Burger Ingredients :

1 sesame seed hamburger bun (potato roll style with split crown)
1/4 pound Topps beef patty
1 slice American cheese
1-2 tomato slices
1-2 lettuce leaves, chopped
1 Tablespoon ketchup
1 Tablespoon chopped white onion
McDonald's hamburger seasoning ( I have NO idea wtf that is)

How Tos & Summary
Cooking Steps

1. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise and the Dijon mustard. Set aside. This is the
secret sauce.
2. Toast the face of each of the buns on a griddle as described in all
other recipes.
3. Follow Quarter-Pounder cooking instuctions for the beef patty.
4. Dress yther bun in the following order:
On the crown (top bun):
special sauce
ketchup
onions
lettuce
tomato
cheese
5. Add the cooked beef patty then the toasted bun-heel.

Summary

If you want an Arch Deluxe with bacon, pre-cook some thick sliced HormelĀ® pepper bacon, breaking one slice per burger in half. Lay the halves side by side on top of the cheese before adding the meat. (Or just use thick sliced bacon, adding a dash of pepper when cooking.)

I certainly do. I meant to bring it up earlier....

Yes, and I remember the commercials for those as well. The container was like an oven and a refridgerator in one. Ah, the days of styrofoam containers....

Yeah but not as bad as the ones that tried to keep you from smuggling out salsa from Chi-Chi's back in the day....

Let's not forget the stupid "collars" for Big Macs to keep everything stacked. I had a McJob when those were in use and it was pain to build a Big Mac. Hated those lil phuckers!
