Famous person arrested for ... WHAT?

What The Funk?

Postby SouthernFriedInfidel » Fri Jul 20, 2012 1:29 pm

Fred Willard (famous comedian, apparently -- I only saw him in "Wall-E") was arrested for "lewd conduct" in a LA adult theater yesterday.

Ok... a few points about this story.

First: I'm actually surprised that there ARE adult theaters still in business any more. Seriously, aren't all porn flicks Direct to DVD productions these days? And really if that isn't enough, there's this thing called THE INTERNET that has virtually all types of porn ever imagined streaming to eager consumers 24/7 for free and in complete privacy. How do these theaters compete?

Second: What person would find it surprising in the least that there would be men in such a place just so they could "abuse themselves"? I mean, isn't that their entire business model??

Third: Why was there a LA cop going in this place to check that every patron had not "freed Willy"? What danger to the public could POSSIBLY exist in such a place?

Fourth: This guy is 72 years old. I wonder if he'll be receiving any notes of congratulations?

Drive through Texas and you'll see tons of XXX places. Not sure if they show movies, but it wouldn't surprise me.

If this was an adult theatre, then the cop being there and arresting him beguiles me.

As far as the dvd comments, I can only suspect that perhaps he has nowhere private he can view his vice. A theatre is much cheaper than finding a hotel room with a DVD player and/or an internet connection.

Though, perhaps he's just "old-fashioned". Some people still read newspapers and don't have mobile phones- but I suspect the above explanation is the more likely of the two.

Being Fred Willard, I can't imagine him not having a single room where he could expect privacy. Poor old dope...

Once again, this particular guy being well off, I'd expect him to have access to some very nice screens for personal use.

I could not say what difference a theater screen would make for guys. I admit I checked out a porn theater once when I was 18, out there at the corner of High Point Rd and Holden... before it was turned into a Hollywood Video store. It was a major learning experience for me, but not one that became a habit, fer shure.

You're thinking of the adult store right next to Toys R Us? No, that was never an actual theater. Think of the shopping center right at the corner with Walgreen's. The theater was in that shopping center back in 1974.

Im a big fan of Fred Willard. Hes one of the funniest and certainly one of the best improv comedians working, probably the most self-deprecating as well.

It's a shame PBS dropped him. I give him a lot of credit for going on Jimmy Kimmel's show days later and confronting it. With his normal shtick, naturally, but also wrapped with a bow of candor and seriousness.

Of all the people caught in controversy, Fred will come out on top with very little tarnish.

Oh, and c'mon SFI, he's an old dude ... who do you THINK the Adult theaters are opened for these days???

SOME people are barely literate. I try to help when I use words that are not in the general lexicon, in my experience.
