South African police murder stiking workers

What The Funk?

Saw this in the news: Striking workers get fired upon. This was in South Africa, at a platinum mine where workers were striking. 34 dead, 78 wounded, hundreds arrested... officially in "self defense."

Makes me wonder about the state of the labor movement across the industrialized world. For real, how far might America be from this sort of thing happening at coal mines up in West Virginia or car plants on the East Coast, if the workers ever decide to organize and demand to collectively bargain?

What's sad is companies use not so blatant versions of these tactics today in the absence of unions. I received several threats over the years, especially in concern to organization.
