Is America "Mystery Babylon" in Revelations?

What The Funk?

Postby Knightrider » Sat Jan 14, 2006 2:34 pm

Here is an interesting web link I found with info that links America with Mystery Babylon in the book of Revelation. Mystery Babylon is the nation that according to biblical scripture God Judges and destroys. If you think about it we have influenced the world greatly with our materialistic values. He are home to Sin City (Las Vegas) and Nevada even allows prostitution. Our government is corrupt and this list goes on and on. Mystery Babylon during the end times is the most powerful and wealthiest nation in the world. Its the seat of world trade. So either America is Mystery Babylon or something profound will happen to America that will cause us to loose our world status. If you believe in bible prophecy, either way it looks bad for the United States. I find it interesting because Revelation describes the great city of Mystery Babylon as a woman dressed in Purple and Scarlet with a golden cup in her hand. That image sounds like the Statue of Liberty. As a matter of fact the torch in Lady Liberty hands was actually suppose to be a golden cup and her robe was supposed to be painted purple and scarlet butto cut costs The designer of the statue of liberty left the paint off. This is a true story btw. What are your thoughts on this?

"Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!
She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.
For all the nations of the earth have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries.
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,
and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries."

"the waters on which the woman sits "are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages" (America is the world's melting pot)

"The woman was called a prostitute, because she sold what rightly belonged to God for profit. Babylon has become a home for demons, meaning it wasn't a home for demons before. The United States of America was founded by God-fearing men and women"
" great civil war was fought, in part, for principles of human equality and value. Honour was paid to biblical values and principles, and God was honoured in schools, homes and government.

But that changed. As the nation grew in wealth and power, so it began to move away from its own ideals. It went from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington to All the President's Men. It became the centre for pornography"

"Fear of neighbours, expressed in high murder rates and a gun culture unknown anywhere else in the 'civilised' world. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness contained the seeds of self centredness, greed, lust, materialism"

"Most importantly, it is a nation that does not realise its danger: it remains convinced of its own righteousness, that its way is the best way. This is not the nation of the Pilgrims. It is not a nation under God. But its sin is that it claims to be under God, and acts in God's name. It uses God as an excuse for its own arrogance and violence, claiming that only the righteous US has the right to impose order and values on the rest of the world."

"Remember the accusation made against ancient Babylon: adultery. God's people were at the root of Babylon's sin. Other nations shared the sins of unbelievers, but in the US it was the Christians who turned their nation into Babylon. The situation is similar to that of Israel at the time of Jesus. Israel, too, was accused of adultery, again and again. They mixed God's ways with the ways of the surrounding nations, allowing into their lives things which were not right. By the time Messiah arrived, they had become so blind to their own adultery, they could no longer see the truth, and they crucified the one for whom they had been waiting"

"The church has mixed the ways of the world with the ways of God, and no longer see it. Material wealth, arrogance, a belief that they are the natural leaders in the world, has led the Christians to adopt much of the idolatry that lies at the heart of the United States. Christians have adopted secular America's religion: patriotism. They take the symbols of the world, and bring them into the church. They swear allegiance to flags and nations, to worldly ideologies and worldly principles. They make allegiance to the US of more importance than allegiance to the gospel"

"Woe! Woe, O great city, O Babylon, city of power! In one hour your doom has come! [Rev. 18.10]"

"Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues. [Rev. 18.4]
What does all this mean, and what are the believers to do? Should they literally leave the US so as to avoid the nuclear [?] catastrophe that is coming? I think American Christians need to look closely at what they have been giving their allegiance to. The United States is responsible for producing much of the pornography, materialism, occult teaching and deception in the world today"

"The woman (whore) which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth." *** Revelation 17:18 The United Nations is headqaurtered in New York City

"In coming to the understanding that Mystery Babylon is the United States, we must then ask: "What does Mystery Babylon and Ancient Babylon have in common?" A study of Ancient Babylon reveals many similarities:

# 1 Ancient Babylon was in the heart of the Fertile Crescent
# 2 Babylon was the trade capital of the world
# 3 Babylon was known for her fine clothing
# 4 Babylon was the wealthiest city on the earth
# 5 Babylon was a very modern city, with 3 & 4 story buildings, having wide streets and laid out at right angles.
# 6 Most importantly, Babylon had the most free water of any of the ancient civilizations. The Euphrates River ran through the center of Ancient Babylon
# 7 Ancient Babylon had the tower of Babel which fell and the USA had the WTC towers which fell. under the WTC rubble a torn page out of the bible was found and it was about the story of the tower of Babel

# 8 The goddess Ishtar was the goddess of freedom. Lady Liberty is the reincarnation of Ishtar and the very base of the stautue of liberty mimics ancient Babylonian Architecture"

Revelation 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:

"The United States sits on many waters. The Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans, Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of California, Bering Sea, Great Lakes, St.Lawrence Seaway,Great Salt Lake, and many large rivers, the Mississippi River being the largest."

She even sells false religion to the world. Selling Christian merchandise is also a multi-billion dollar business in the U.S. The U.S. is the third largest seafaring nation in the world by tonnage. There are numerous major seaports on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the Gulf of Mexico, and Inland Seaways which include the St.Lawrence Seaway, major rivers, and Great Lakes. The merchandising prowess of the U.S. is well known throughout the world. The world banking center is in the U.S. The major stock market of the world is the U.S. Stock Exchange. If it fails all the others come down with it. All currencies are based upon the value of the U.S. dollar. Safe to say the U.S. is the merchadising capital of the world. You may say that there are many foreign companies and such and you would be correct, but we put them there. Companies continue to pull out of the U.S. and set up shop in other countries to increase their profits. They could care less about putting us out of work. The bottom line is accumulating wealth.

Revelation 18:9 ¶ And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

Revelation 18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; (torch of the statue of Liberty?) and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

I'm of the thinking Revelations is merely a historic recall of the Roman empire. Not until Bush did I really think otherwise, and I'm not joking for once. Of no other time in recent history, even the cold war; can I think of a more undefined future for America. I'm not trying to turn your post into politics, but to merely say.... they're a lot of uncertainties in our country at the current moment, any of which could bring the downfall of our fair nation.

Do I think religion has anything to do with it?

No. At least I hope not.

But if you believe in the Bible, what other nation would fit the description of Mystery Babylon. This is the book of Revelation which refers to the end times and Rome today is hardly the world seat of commerce trade. We do live in uncertain times though.

we have a president who says he values life but then supports the death penalty. The "born again christians" still support him though. But its not just our president, its our whole system regardless of political party affiliation. History always repeats itself and all kingdoms that have risen to world power have fell and that includes the Romans, Babylonians and other past civilizations. So even if you dont believe Religion has anything to do with it, we seem destine to fall at some point in the future. We are still a very young nation compared to the world reign of the Roman empire. Its only a matter of time.

If Revelations is indeed a fortelling of future events then indeed its creepy. But in my opinion it isn't, its merely coencidence.... or perhaps people seeing what they want to see in vague writings.

I'm not a religious expert, nor greatly educated on these subjects.

One thing I agree with you on though... is IF there is a divine country that will fall, it will be us. But thats because we are all thats left, and any literary references could have been as easily equated with the USSR, Germany, England, The Roman Empire, or even Japan.

(forgive my spelling I'm at work on an old OS/2 machine with no spell check.)

The book of Revelation is a difficult book to interpret becasue it uses alot of imagery and symbols that represents unknown events and nations. But If you believe the idea that Mystery Babylon is the world seat of government, that Means America is Mystery Babylon. If its not America, then its some other nation in the future that surpass America as the world's super power. In order for that to happen, America has to fall or something devistating happens to us wether its a natural disaster or a nuclear attack.

In regards to Revelation being in reference to the Roman Empire...I had the understanding that due to some historical detail - the Roman Empire never completely fell and that we (America) are actually what remains of it.

I wonder what excuse christians will use a century from now when they're still sitting and twiddling their thumbs waiting, waiting, and waiting for something that's never going to happen?

You know that may be true, but If theres one thing life has taught me, is if you believe something hard & long enough, you can actually make things happens.

You know the whole art imitates life, imitates art thing. All it takes is one person with enough power to be convinced that he/she needs to initiate end times, and sure enough....

I mean no one knows about the whole ascension/heaven/Jesus coming back thing, but as far as armageddon... If your one of those people that believes it's near, it quite possibly, you'll believe it's going to happen in your lifetime, and your actions will be somewhat conditioned to make it happen.

I've always thought that the only 'end times' we will have will be completely devoid of any supernatural elements.

Man likes to self-fulfill his prophecy. Even push things to make it happen. I can see a scenario where tired of waiting, they make it happen.

I can only hope reason and understanding get to them before they are responsible for the murder of the rest of us.

Cutting and pasting an entire essay no one reads really is a waste of time and blog space. Does he get some sort of weird thrill or something?

If he were interested in discussing or supporting his claims it might serve some purpose, but as it stands it's just mental maturbation on his part. Why should TDG serve as his Kleenex?

It's agreed upon that Mystery Babylon, the Harlot is a religious system. Some believe that it is the Roman church because Rome is the city built on seven hills (the Vatican is a city in Rome) and because of the history of the Roman Church and Roman Empire. The revived Roman Empire is 'the beast that once was and now is again.' However, I don't believe that the Harlot is just the Roman church. The Protestant church is just as guilty of atrocities. While Churches are evangelizing across the globe via satellite, radio and missionaries these same churches have become marketplaces and the Gospel is for sale. The Protestant church which came out of the Reformation movement of the Roman Catholic church have joined so you might call them 'the church universal'.

We pretty much have a global monetary system in place. The final steps haven't been implemented as yet. This current recession in the U.S. is affecting the entire globe. So, when the food shortages begin and Israel reaches a peace treaty you'd better head for the hills.

[quote="End Times Prophet"]This is my own work.
Mystery Babylon and the beast
We must understand that Mystery Babylon is three things not just one as
many teach. Without all three it is impossible to understand who she is.
To start off we have to look at Rev.17:18
(1st.The original literal translation of the Greek)this is not mans opinion or doctrine.)
(Revelation 17:18 IGNT ) (Re 17:18 ) “kai {AND} h {THE} gunh {WOMAN} hn {WHOM} eidev {THOU SAWEST} estin {IS} j {THE} poliv h {CITY} megalh {GREAT,} j {WHICH} ecousa {HAS a } basileian {KINGDOM} epi {OVER} twn {THE} basilewn {KINGS} thv {OF THE} gjhv {EARTH.}”
(1.) She is the great city.
(2.) which has a kingdom over the kings of the earth.
(3.)She is all false or deceiving Religious systems with false prophets who teach spiritual fornication of all types .
Everyone of these false systems are allowed according to the law of that kingdom.
