The farce of July
![]() |
I suppose it wasn't so much the fact that we broke away from the "mutha country" that we celebrate, but the fact that Americans championed in a new era of human rights and freedoms, a type of government that left most other country's leaders in fear of the ideas of "freedom" and "liberty". Indeed that would be a country I would be proud of too.
Today, the fourth of July is a farce. America has changed. The home of the brave is now the home of the divided. Separated by the red & blue rather then united by them. Foreign leaders fear us, but not for the progressive rights we give our citizens but our adamant attitude that all who live different then us should change to be like us. But how can we dictate how other countries should live, when we ourselves are in many ways at war with each other. Gays versus straight, Democrats versus Republicans, Christians versus Muslims, Conservatives versus Liberals... oh yeah, and we hate those pesky Mexicans.
I can't talk on the phone or the Internet without the careful awareness that my government is monitoring me. Our economy enables the rich, and oppresses the poor. Corporations make record profits off industries that are apart of the infrastructure for American transportation and health-care.
Protests still erupt from foreign citizens as our exiting President visits European countries. Our overweight and fattened country is the humor of the world as we in our hypocritical naivety dictate our successful lifestyle of smog-infested highways and suburban sprawl.
The Farce of July, is our last attempt to mentally dichotomize our happiness and our problems. Today we will celebrate like every other year, but our struggle for the reason we celebrate it, has never been at more risk of being lost then it is now in America's history. The independence we seek is from our own government not that of a foreign entity. Today we may pretend, but it is my hope come November we begin our declaration. To take back this country for all that we hope in our minds, to rightfully say to the world that this is America. This is a country who has in the past elected a president whose abused the differences of its people rather then has embraced them. May our new country and it's leaders look upon it citizens less their differences. To look upon your neighbor blind of color, creed, or beliefs and say "This is a American, and they deserve every freedom and right that I do", to say "We are all equal" and give our citizens the country we celebrate on the fourth of July.
Happy Fourth of July.
