Serendipitous Says "Simon Says Get Up" Sucks

Back in May, I was wondering Where’s Wicker? So here we are, three months later. Jeff Wicker is still looking for a new radio gig, and we’re stuck with 98.7’s Simon Says Get Up!the new morning show hosted by Sean, Skip and Carmen.

I’m not a die-hard Wicker fan, but at least I could listen to him host the show without shouting like I have [define]Tourette syndrome[/define]! Even the promos of the words “GET UP!” make me want to hurt “the voice.” Anyone who knows me knows that trying to get me out of bed before I’m ready to roll out on my own is the same as a deathwish. Don’t do it! I will hurt you.

The music is still the same, and I love having a mix to listen to while I’m slowly waking up. One morning a caller asked for Buffett’s “Boat Drinks” and that was a great start! But then the crew had some of their pedestrian chatter and served up a buzz kill.

So the stories out there regarding Wicker’s departure were ratings were falling, they were making reductions… what else was “the word on the street?” I’m curious what the ratings have been like over the last three months and if Simon Says Savings (in having their PD host the show) was worth it.

It’s Simon Says Get Up. Not the Sean Sellers Show. Not the Carmen Show. Not the Skip Show. There’s a reason why the morning show was called “The Wicker Show.” Jeff, we miss you!

Maybe they're not my cup of tea, but for those of you out there who dig 'em, gimme your sales pitch. What's there to like???

Screw it.. I say conver the channel back to Kiss FM and play Def Lepard all day!!!
This is our chance to change things, this is our destiny.

Makes me glad I listen to NPR in the mornings. The personalities are from all around the world.

To be honest that's one of the things I miss from the 9-5 thing.... is having a 1/2 hour of commute time listening to the radio.... I never turn the radio on here at the house.

I think a lot of stations, including WFDD, do radio streaming to your computer. You could listen to mind-strengthening public radio programs while watching BHL's mind shrink to and past nothing on the blog.

Wasn't 98.7 called "The Point" back in the '90's? I miss the days of alternative music on the radio. Good thing I have XM!

I'm honestly just surprised they haven't killed murphy. They killed Aunt eloise, killed this guy, killed everyone at wxii....

Yet they hire lamer putzes than they had the first round....

When this area gets a true shock jock, I'll be excited... then we can stop talking about bibles and beating off to chickens.

Couldn't agree more serendip. These guys without Jeff Wicker are awful. That new guy has the personality of my desk.

Gboro area is in dire need of good radio. And yeah, the "we play everything" station only plays the same damn old songs and easy listening over and over and over and over (boat drinks excluded naturally).

I stopped waking up to NPR when they fired Bob Woodrige.

As soon as I pick a one of the three non country stations in the area to wake up to I will be switching off the simon crap for good.

Hmmm that ipod alarm clock has been calling my name for a loooooong time.

Heh... Someone should send this thread to Simon and Jeff Wicker.

Jeff, if you read this, WE MISS YA MAN!!!!

And Sean if you read this, NO HARD FEELINS! You're just not cut out for morning shows.

Yes.... lovely voice, Sean. But spinnin' the tunes is different from "anchoring" a morning show.

I'd get XM if I still had the hour-long commute.iPOD/CDs work too. Indeed, that IS true love... (did she get tired of hearing how bad morning radio is?)

And welcome to Greensboring, deepshade!

Is that you, Todd? You seemed so nice on the phone! I remember saying to Skip that morning you called at around 6, "That guy is our friend 'til the end! A real pal who is planning a party that we will soon attend!" Skip told me not to get attached, but it was too late. After reading this, I plan to cry myself to sleep listening to "Boat Drinks" very faintly on repeat. Gotta go back to "spinnin' some tunes" to use a hip radio term and anchor my hand with an ice cold PBR. I encourage everyone to be outraged by the Simon Says "GET UP" show regularly. Please tell everyone you know of your distaste for it and encourage them to do the same! Something has to be done!!

Who is Todd? Serendip's name is not Todd I don't think.

If this is the "Sean" from "Simon", why has the show dulled so much? Is this a transitional period between format changes or what? Seems the show has lost a lot of personality since Wicker got the axe.

Caveat: I only listened between 5:30 and 7am, but even the replayed segments that used to be played very early in the show (and segue into the show proper) were much better than what's on there now. Then again, perhaps there are segments I no longer hear because they aren't re-played.

You did play a song by "Flight of the Concords" again today, so I give you credit for that.

BTW: Upgrade to a micro-brew. Your tears will taste much sweeter.

In the car this morning, we turned the radio on and it was still tuned into 98.7 from last night. So we just left it on Simon... In reference to the Get Up show, my daughter asked, "Are they getting any better?"

"Not really," I responded.

"So why do you still listen?" she asked. "Hmm. Good question," I thought.

I asked her, "Have you ever heard the expression, 'It's like watching a train wreck?'"

I like NPR for my drive to work. But when waking up, I like to have music. Although I will admit that sometimes hearing idiotic comments on a morning show is more alarming than the clock-radio going off!

Well, i admit there are a good selection of idiotic comments to be heard on NPR of a morning. Hearing the latest recordings from town hall meetings, people screaming to keep government from interfering with Medicare... That often gets me to switch over to my CDs.

Ignorance update....

So I must have been listening to something on that station last night because it was the first thing on this morning. As soon as the radio powered up I hear them going on about this supposed "memo" from the Mcdonalds corporation stating that they will purposely leave items out of the bags in drive throughs to pump up profits.

Image

I thought for sure they were leading up to the eventual revelation that this was a joke...something I knew about a freaking WEEK ago... but they never did.. matter of fact they believed it!

Oh my god, they kept on and on like some kind of retarded fast food mob with pitchforks.

Ms. "I will believe anything I see on the internet" Brown (a host on this travesty) was basically shouting this as 'news' and getting all worked up for the listening public to hear and perpetuate the myth.

Jesus, a simple Google search would have turned up the evidence that this was a fake.. as if a memo of this nature itself wouldn't be evidence enough for anyone with half a brain.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/yacomink/well-s ... bes-4fgy-b

This wasn't the first time they've gotten all slap happy and did a circle jerk with false news, and it reminded me of why I don't listen anymore. I thought about calling them to set them straight but that would have fed their egos. I happily connected my ipod and was on my way.

I see what you did there, Sean.

If you want people to get stirred up and call in, you know how to work that. You bait the audience by having one personality take one side, the other personality take the opposite, then you mock an 'argument' and throw it out to the audience to call in and support one or the other viewpoint. Nice attempt at a revision.

Hey Sean, do you guys still have guests or did that go away with Jeff Wicker? I assume the station cheaped out on that aspect of the show now?

Guests are not paid to be on any radio show. You should know that, since you're an expert!
