Superior Mechanical Inc.

Interesting little scam going on in the Greensboro area. My wife and I have a maintenance contract for our heat pump with a local company called Mechanical Air. A week or so back, we got a call from a representative for Superior Mechanical Inc, asking if they could come service our heat pump. My wife, puzzled by the slightly different name of the company asked about that... and they said that it was just one of those business things. New management.

So we made the appointment for servicing to be done today. When the guys came out this morning, my wife felt something was odd about the truck, so she pulled out the contract that we have with Mechanical Air and called the number. They are still in business using the same name, same management. The legitimate folks urged her to go out and have these guys stop work at once.

So my wife went outside to confront these "Superior" fellows, ask them how their company got our name and phone number... it being unlisted and all. They had already dismantled part of our heat pump, but they agreed to stop what they were doing and put everything back in place. In response to the question, they said they thought our information was obtained via some telemarketer.

We're not at ALL pleased by this little trick. I don't know how many Greensboreans are or might be affected by this, but I thought folks ought to know.

I'd love to have someone out to check my freon levels. I'm a bit scared they'll refuse to touch it though as old as it is.

Mechanical Air has worked well for us, but I don't know if they go out as far as your area... you'd have to ask. But really, NOW is a good time to get it done, before summer and heat-wave break-downs.

I suppose.... there's actually a place a couple block over... but I'm sort of operating on the "if it isn't broke don't fix it" mentality.... surely I'll live to regret it.

Yes. Yes, you will. Just like a car, your A/C won't operate nearly as long if you don't perform regular maintenance. Get the cash together and get someone to look at your machine before it goes POOF!

Superior Mechanical Inc is NOT a scam company !!!
We are a local company in business since 1986, that employs approx 80 employees. We design and install commercial as well as residential HVAC for notable accounts such as the Proximity Hotel in Greensboro NC , which is the first Hotel to achieve "Platinum" LEED rating for energy efficient design.
We did however employ a firm to help us market to our residential customers with a calling campaign. They were to only call customers that we had done work for in the past ( dating as far back as 1986 )
But, due to some complaints from our customers about dinner time phone calls , we have stopped using them.

Even as the writer of this blog said, when we were asked to stop working we did , we didn't ask or demand payment , we apologized for any confusion and left. What else could we have done ??

I am a little disheartened that the writer of this piece , although posting a link to our website, didn't look at it to see that we are a long standing company with a long history of customer satisfaction.

If anyone has any questions or concerns , please contact me.

Thank you,

Thanks for your side of the story. I admit I was rather upset when I originally posted this thread. How your company got my unlisted phone number, I am not sure. Our records don't indicate ever having had dealings with your company. But I suppose that's water under the bridge.

In any event, I hope that such events are rare for you.
