I'm going to see what happens, but I now regret ever going to see a doctor.

I can't even imagine what the bill for an hour-long pulmonary test is going to run me, after seeing the bill for a visit to my GP ($300)

In the words of my alter-ego, FUCK THIS SHIT!

I just got done rebuilding my credit....

...and the point was to find out what the hell is wrong with me....

but I'm too afraid of pursuing this any further due to my financial liability...

To make it worse we're studying the French health-care system at school. Rub it in my face, you know?

So I called the Doc. It's been three weeks+ since the pulmonary tests with no word. I was told they couldn't find any information on it, and to call back tomorrow.

I now have a swollen spleen (or something in that area)... and asked the nurse to add it to the notes, I was advised to call back tomorrow and tell the nurse.

However I went to a presentation by Sharon Morrison PHD, at UNCG today on world health. She talked in depth about Malaria.

Symptoms: Swollen spleen, out of breath, lack of energy, and gastroenteritis.

Check, check, check, and if gastroenteritis can lead to a swollen LRQ, then check.

I'm wondering if I could have picked something up in Egypt now??? (Or I'm slowly becoming a hypochondriac.)

I just want to feel better, and I'm now going on 3 months of diagnosing. (or lack there of)

No, at least not likely malaria. The symptoms you describe are not the primary symptoms which are: chills. fever, convulsions, nausea, sweating, vomiting, bloody stools etc.

Malaria is not currently an issue in Egypt. The US, UK and Canadian health agencies do not recommend taking anti-malarials

Got a $900.00 bill for the pulminary tests.

Haven't got the results, but I'm assuming that insurance isn't covering them.

I hate America.

So got a call from the nurse the other day, I call her back this afternoon.

She says "Great news, you don't have asthma!"

What?

What about the fact my spleen is pushing out, and my lower right quadrant is disproportionately pushing out on the right side?

She replies "I don't know, you'd have to set up another appointment for that? But the doctor recommends exercise and diet."

WTF?

I've given up...

So I spent $1500 for them to tell me what I already know, I don't have asthma. Which I knew because when this all started I tried taken albuterol to see if it would help. I didn't need a $900 test, only a $15 inhaler from some off-shore pharmacy.

American health-care bites.

I ran in to a very similar problem when I had sciatica a few years back, walked around for two years in complete pain thinking it was the rest of my life before a nurse gave me a cortisol shot and it went away.

I had a similar situation with chronic UTIs. I had them constantly for seven years..... SEVEN YEARS and took so many antibiotics for them that it's a wonder I had any natural immune system left at all. Until my first year of college up at ASU. I went to a urologist for my 10,000th UTI and they recommended I get a cystoscopy. They discovered I had a stricture of my urethra, right up where it connects to the bladder. They dilated it and sent me on my way. I've not had that problem since.

All it takes is one person who actually knows what the hell they're doing.

PS: That "10,000th" was hyperbole. LOL But seriously, I had those things so much that I actually got suicidal. I couldn't imagine living the rest of my life feeling that uncomfortable.

That was weird.

Was it wriggling?

Loaiasis is pretty gross but unless you've been to Central or West Africa you're not likely to have it. I don't think it's a problem in Egypt

Gross images of Loaiasis can be found here

It wasn't anything that solid, it broke apart when I removed it. (though it definitely had a string structure of connective tissue)

I'm working on a current hypothesis which seems to have had some positive results...

Without sounding like a complete homeopathic loon, I'm leaning tentatively towards candida overgrowth.

I'm a perfect candidate, I'm on estrogen, border-line diabetic, and I wear a partial with dental issue in the past.

I attempted approx 30 days of anti-biotics, and a few dozen doses of papaya seeds as an anti-parasitic, with little/no effect.

Then I check my PH, down below and it is overly acidic suggesting a bacterial infection.

I ordered some anti-fungal to give it a go, but they're on back-order in Vanuatu...

If that wasn't too much information, I think the "worm" may be fungus. I've yet to see these things move yet.

A little googling and I found this picture of a fungal infection of the eye. This is exactly what it looked like:

Well update is... Diflucan made me lose weight, and definitely cleaned out some whack bacteria but has not cured the problem.

Last night after rolling on my side I found an intensely painful area several inches above the right hip.

I've decided it's still likely the appendix, which was my first original thought before all this began anyways.

I'm going for a second opinion this time, at the student health center. Since it's not during the school year, it's another $65. I'm going to take in the tests I have previously, and push for a sonogram of the area- if not too expensive.

So another $245 gone. Went to the student health center and started out back at numero uno. New blood work, new x-rays. I even took the old ones in.

The nice thing is that they do the x-rays on site thought rather than having them read "remotely"- like the previous ones were.

I'm hoping they find something rather than having to continue this charade, but no doubt it's likely we will.

To make matters worse, apparently my "allotted time" for my appointment wasn't enough for an entire evaluation, so they asked me to come back tomorrow. Of course that will cost more money too.

If Romney becomes president, I'm changing my degree type to 'medical doctor'. There's just too much money in it.

Just got back from the doctor. Spent two days getting felt up, and re-doing all the tests that have already been done.

This time she hinted at the "c" word.

Lovely.
