Know Your Address

by Liv | Published on September 26th, 2007, 9:17 am | Life
My job requires me to work with addresses everyday. It bothers me to no ends when people don't know if they live on a street, a court, an avenue, etc.... Worst yet, I systematically ask for an apartment number every time, because for some reason they'll sometimes forget to give it to you. However, for some reason when you suggest to a homeowner that you may have mistaken them for an apartment dweller they get super mad. Oh, and never, ever call a condo unit an apt number. Technically USPS does this in their database. Most of the time they don't use UNIT, they use APT... which I feel is completely appropriate. Why do we need a separate identifier for Condo? But people get upset.

Oh, and another thing about addresses... When people live in trailer parks, where the address is

321 main st TRLR 14
Greensboro, NC 27406

or something like that... They never like the identifier "trlr".... They always want the pound sign.

But my worst pet peeve? The ultimate thing that gets me upset? When they say "Number A" or similar... Or "# A"

Last time I checked, "A" was not a number.

Not many know that streets go North and South, whereas avenues go East and West.

Not in Greensboro. They may start out going in a set of directions but that's not how many of them end up... lol

I understand what you're up against but really what about the poor delivery driver who has to actually deliver to these idiots? Been there done that.

Or when I was towing cars and would ask where their car is located and they would answer, "In my yard," or "At my work," as if I know who the hell I'm talking to.

Seems no amount of technology can overcome stupidity. :D
