Pro-Life? Yes! Pro Choice? No! Pro Abortion? Well yes ...

Or Allah for that matter?

A Gallup pollshows that Americans increasingly don't like the label 'Pro choice' and prefer to call themselves 'Pro Life'

42% self identify as 'Pro Choice', 50% as 'Pro Life'

Yet a solid 77% think that abortion should be legal under some circumstances.

Now you can bet you'll hear from right win news sources that 'a majority of Americans are Pro Life' - I bet you won't hear that 'over three quarters think that abortion should be legal in some circumstances'

Indeed the very title of the Gallup article is "Pro-Choice" Americans at Record-Low 41%, Americans now tilt "pro-life" by nine-point margin, 50% to 41

Perhaps what is needed is a new name. Or maybe Americans need to drop labels and think things through. Labels worked against NC's Amendment 1, where a majority of Carolinians thought that gays and common law couples should have some rights, yet voted for an amendment that stripped them of all rights.

Go figure

Here's the thing. Saw an article from Scientific American as to why critical thinkers tend to lose their faith in God.

Gervais and Norenzayan’s research is based on the idea that we possess two different ways of thinking that are distinct yet related. Understanding these two ways, which are often referred to as System 1 and System 2, may be important for understanding our tendency towards having religious faith. System 1 thinking relies on shortcuts and other rules-of-thumb while System 2 relies on analytic thinking and tends to be slower and require more effort.

There you have it. Actually analyzing information and carefully thinking it through is HARD. Which is why we don't DO IT.
