In Germany, Paul the Octopus quickly became a media star. Because he managed to "pick" the correct outcome of every German match in the World Cup. When he was shown indicating that Spain would beat Germany, he seemed to lose a lot of fans. When Spain DID win, that fickle fan base became positively hostile.

When reached for comment, Paul reportedly replied, "GLUG??"

Thing about that is that he has 8 appendages, and for the lotto, you need 6 numbers. He could get all the right numbers, and you'd still miss out on the jackpot.

Bloody Octopi.....

Says here that Paul, having correctly picked the championship game of the World Cup, will now retire from the oracle business. That's probably wise. Being an oracle (especially one that gives unambiguous answers) is a profession with a rather short shelf life.

I'm sure he could happily retire to that cool aquarium in Barcelona.

I hear that Paul will spend the rest of his days living in Madrid. I suppose that should make him one happy mollusk.

A tank in a room in Barcelona isn't very different from a tank in a room in Munich

Much like hotel rooms.
