Saw this last night on ebay, and couldn't get over the uncanny resemblance to the motorcycle in the Batman movie. Sure it's not exact but it looks pretty cool, and for only $1500.00 you can have one. It's perfect if you're Christian Bale and want to look cool riding to assault your mum and sis. A bit out of my range for spur of the moment purchases, but I see a trend coming down the road where small engined motorcycles find new and hip styling cues as more people move away from convention forms of transportation. I must say the "Batman" motorcycle looks somewhat unpleasant for riding comfort but who knows:

Yep basically. I wish they'd come up with more unique versions of the "moped". Because I think America is ready to buy, but they don't want the stigma of "Vespa" and "dirt bike" crowd.

I note that this "Batman" cycle says it has a CVT gearbox. I've had a Continuous Variable Transmission for 7 years now... I'm wondering how long it'll be until ALL vehicles are built with these things?

I don't know... I'm curious about the parasitic power loss of a cvt compared to a standard automatic. I still would be doubtful you'd ever match the economy of a manual though.

Agreed that manual is best for fuel efficiency. But the CVT is a darn good system that has none of the pitfalls of regular automatics. Like incorrect shifting, loss of gears. I just don't know what new problems the system brings.

I've put 140k miles on mine with no problems. So I"m happy.

What's kind of funny is the CVT would be right at home on a electric vehicle, and since I assume that's where we're headed, it probably will be common in a few years.

Not really, multiple gears are unnecessary with many electric motors.

That's the point -- there are no multiple gears with CVT transmissions. Just a continuous ramp.

OK maybe I should rephrase that.

Variable gearing is unnecessary with many electric motors.
