Interesting note for those looking for the best country to retire in: Gotta look at Ecuador.

With monthly estimated living expenses ranging from $900 to $1,400, Ecuador surpassed Panama, Malaysia, Mexico and Costa Rica, which rounded out the top five countries.


Sure beats the hell out of New York. :roll:

I would consider it. I've always considered Costa Rica as my fail-safe if I never make it out of the U.S. Though I suspect by the time I'm able to retire, prices will have changed some.

I asked a friend about Ecuador, mainly because he has family there and has been there. He said that the article conveniently left out the high rate of crimes, and the fact that the guy in charge recently changed the constitution to guarantee himself another decade in charge of the country. Good things to know indeed...
